Chrissy's space5月29日 Garage Building5月16日 What is it?I really don't know what it is lately, but I keep seeing these birds and having these bird experiences. It all started when we went to the Bahamas last year, and since then we have been having encounters with birds. Yesterday as Greg and I were going to dash out the door this little yellow and black bird was sitting on our step. He just sat there....looked around and did nothing. When we had to leave our feet were only inches away from his little body and the poor thing didn't move. I don't know if he was cold, hungry or hurt. And I have no idea what kind of bird it was either, such vivid yellow feathers and such a fine pointy beak. When we returned home a few hours later there was no sign of him. Could this be a Canada Warbler?
5月15日 Long WeekendIt’s the beginning of May long weekend, Victoria Day, the weekend where every cottager is out at the lake and open windows to freshen the air and do their spring clean up. Although this Victoria Day long weekend is starting out to very miserable. There are places right now which are snowing and blowing. It’s not supposed to snow this late in May? Where the heck is our spring? This snow and frost has made some of poor perennials freeze and has made most of us Manitobans miserable.
I had plans this weekend, some which will be kyboshed due to the cold snowy/rainy weather. I had plans to work in my flowerbeds and make much of my dirt weed free and even call to have a truckload of dirt hauled to yard so that I can prepare an area to plant myself a little garden. I also needed to spend a little more time cleaning up my yard of nails and shingle pieces from the roof being done. But who wants to be out and about in the yard while wearing a parka?
I also had plans to head on out to some greenhouses and take a look at all the new plants, see what kind of fun and neat things are out there this year for the garden. Again, having to be bundled up to head out doesn’t seem like much fun either. This weekend is looking better and better to stay in bed and pull the covers up over my head and catch up on all my lost sleep. 5月6日 Sunday Afternoon DriverThis past Sunday afternoon on the drive to my cousin's place I spotted this spectacular bird. It was just sitting on a fence post and looking around. It was only about 1/4 of a mile from my Mom and Dad's drive way. I have a feeling it was have some good eats from all the fish that were in the ditch coming up from Lake Manitoba. I only wished I had my better camera along with the super telescopic lens... but I'm still happy with what I saw.
4月21日 Finally4月1日 I hate SNOWI’m desperately waiting for Spring to spring forth! I’m getting impatient to head outside, to see progress on the house repairs and to get rid of the old garage and get the new one up! But how is anything supposed to get done when all I see is snow, snow and more snow! And guess what the weather person is calling for tonight? You guessed it! More SNOW! Come on! It’s almost April! There should be puddles and mud not ice and snow. Easter will be here in 2 weeks and we’ll still be decked out in our Easter tuque and mitts rather than our Easter bonnets and gloves.I’m well aware that I’m not the only impatient body waiting for spring. Just by watching the behavior of my cats I can see that that they are chopping at the bit. There has been many times where I have seen the cat “hunting” from the window. She’s seen a little bird, I’m sure she can taste it, but with the snow on the ground she refuses to venture out. And my male cat, he’s just getting rambunctious! He’s running around the house, up and down the stairs chasing Lucy and being chased by Lucy. There is a fair amount of cat hair flying through the house and numerous thuds, slams and bumps throughout the day and evening. And me, I’ve got a drawer full of seeds that I’m itching to place in the ground. I want to start my seedlings in the house and plant them out. There is nothing more fun than feeling the warm sun, breathing the warm air and playing around in the yard. Watching the plants grow and everything slowly green up is such a calming and wonderful feeling. The spring is great time of year, it’s warm, and no mosquitoes or too many other bugs yet, while the trees and the wildlife (the little we see in the city) seems to all come to life once again.I’m not sure if Greg is itching for spring, as for him it means the end of two pool leagues! It means that he will be home on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will have to haul the lawnmower out, maybe use the rake and pick up the little presents that the neighborhood dogs have left for him. He may need to pull a week or pick up a stray nail that flew from the house during the re-shingling. He may have to encounter the odd flying bug or whack a mosquito or two come June. I think that he is sometimes afraid of the chores I may find for him to do when he’s not playing pool. I do know one thing; as long as there is no pool and I’m around he will never be bored! I can ALWAYS find something for him to do.12月21日 December DaysDecember has come and it's almost past, this means another Christmas has almost come and gone. We only a few more sleep before the big hairy person comes. Yup, my brother-in-law is coming for dinner! Ha ha... just joking Eric, we all know if you need anything it's hair!
Christmas dinner will once again be hosted at our house. We are going to have dinner on Christmas Eve. This will be nice as back in the days of celebrating in Moosehorn we always did our gifts and fun on Christmas Eve. This week, this day just worked out better for most of us, so it will be nice to gather the family. The plan is to open all of our gifts as well on Christmas Eve, again one of those traditions that always took place in Moosehorn. And for some odd reason dear little Jillian is very excited to come to dinner to my house. She has been driving her mother absolutely crazy all week asking if to was the night that she is going to Auntie's house. I've tried asking her why she is soooo excited and all she says is that I have the Cinderella show. Something is mighty special to her about that.
So, my Mom and Dad are packing up the house to come to Winnipeg to spend the holidays with us. We may even see their smiling faces on our doorstep tomorrow. In that case, Greg! Get out side and finish the shoveling! Fight the cold weather and move that shovel!
Our house is generally ready. I cleaned like crazy yesterday, the bedrooms are ready, the gifts are all wrapped, the kitchen cleaned, the groceries are purchased and only a couple of areas are left to tidy. The biggest of jobs is the laundry, although I don't believe that will be finished today. We've experienced a little problem this morning, our sewer has backed up and we are waiting for calls back from handy men to unclog our problem. Good thing Greg is the laundry maid as he noticed the sewer hole full of laundry water before anything flooded, and he didn't freak-out either! Good on you Greg!
To our other surprise this morning I discovered 7 baby swordtail fish in my fish tank this morning! I was soooo surprised because I know my guppy is about to burst with babies but I wasn't so sure of the swordtail. I did see the female acting a little strange yesterday but I didn't think too much of it... now I think I know why, she was busy giving birth. I'm absolutely tickled pink, I think it's neat to have these little fry in my tank and that I will get to watch them grow. I'm going to consider it a early Christmas present. And the sewer fixer guy is also getting an early Christmas cheque!
Merry Christmas to Everyone!
May You Have a Safe and Happy Holliday. 11月2日 Good Morning Winnipeg!Good Morning Winnipeg!
It's November 2nd and the sun is shinning and the birds are singing.... well at least the birds were singing. It's a lovely fall day, no snow and not even all that cold outside even though winter is looming and I'm prepared. Because of the extra hour of sleep I was supposed to get due to turning clocks back to standard time, I was greeted by husband. He just arrived home from the night shift with his hands full saying "BREAKFAST!" He brought home breakfast, for the first time ever since I've known him. How sweet, black coffee and everything. But I'm tired... I didn't have a good sleep and was looking forward to that "extra hour". Feeling guilty, I dragged my tired butt out of bed and joined him for breakfast.
Now, for those of you who know my husband, you know he's chatty. For those of you who don't, well he should have been named Cathy, for Chatty Cathy as his mouth usually never stops. It's nice, most days. He's usually full of energy and he is 50X more a morning person than I am..... well than 98% of the morning people population. Anyway......
I'm having my breakfast... he's roaming the house... and I hear the back door open and him talking to the cat he let out earlier. With that he starts to holler like a banshee! I think my deaf neighbour may have even heard him. What the devil is going on???? I asked him "What is the matter?" and all he said is "It has a tail, and it's in her mouth."
Ahhh..... the cat... Lucy has obviously brought him breakfast! (Lucy is our cat, the gregarious hunter!)
Because Greg is screaming like a banshee Lucy is off and hiding, she doesn't know she did bad.... she just brought him a gift. Giving Greg and few moments to calm down and Lucy a few minutes to calm down, I set aside my coffee and investigate. Lucy has run into our bedroom, and there on my side of the bedroom, bedside the bed lay her "gift". A bird. Yup, she snatched one up, one less singing bird this morning. Poor thing. Because I've cleaned up enough birds in my life with her, it was Greg's turn to pick up the gift.
Now I need more coffee. 8月20日 Summer VacationSummers are for vacation, time away from work, a time to do as you please. It's time to enjoy the warmth of the sunshine, go to the beach and perhaps spend some quality time with those who want your company. Sometimes we get crazy ideas to jump in the car and venture to places heard of. Some do it alone; some take their children, newlyweds go sight seeing.... and then there is us who take it with parents, or my case the in-laws.
We all know that road trips can get long, boring and tiresome. I now know that throwing in the extra component of in-laws could make the trip a little longer, a little more tiresome but not necessarily boring.... if you catch my drift.
Greg, father-in-law Hartley, mother-in-law Carol and I packed ourselves tightly into one car and pointed it south. Ah... South Dakota, we hear so much about it, a common summer family destination this year. Every other person I spoke to had visited the area, it sounded nice and we were going to pack in all the sites in three days (plus the driving time to and from the Black Hills).
We made the trip to Mount Rushmore, stood in front to have our face mounted on a photo with the 4 famous president faces. We made our way to see the 50-year progress of Crazy Horse, which was really just crazy. We winded our way 200 feet below the earth's crust in the Windcaves, seeing many paths that lead to nowhere. We visited the captive animals, birds and reptiles at the Reptile Gardens and Bear Country. Finally, on the way home it was a drive through South Dakota's barren and dry Badlands, where we once again posed for the almighty tourist photo. (You can check out all the photos in the photo album posted on the right hand side of the screen.)
