My Buring Question

Why is it that cows eat grains and green things to get fat while people are supposed to eat grains and green things to get skinny?

The Great Outdoors

On a lovely Monday evening Gregory and I decided to spend the time enjoying the great outdoors!  We strapped on our shinny new bike helmets and ventured out for the first time on our Wedding Bikes (thanks guys!).  We took a lovely ride around Assiniboine Park, stopped at the duck pond to see the ducks and geese with all their little ones.  Once we got home we discovered this cutie, sitting in the neighbor’s little lilac tree... only inches away from our head.  He was sitting there just looking down at us.

But the Momma Jay sure didn't like that the cat came out to join us.  She sure let the whole neighborhood know that that she was unhappy... and the cat.... well unhappy wasn't on her mind.

Heel & Wheel

This past weekend was the Heel & Wheel for Crohn's and Colitis in Winnipeg.  It was an event to raise money, and those with the disease to have fun and raise awareness to others of their conditions. A couple years back my oldest nephew Troy was diagnosed with Crohn's, therefore most of the family came out for him and the event.

A HUGE Thank-You to all of the volunteer who put on the event.  Everyone who came enjoyed themselves and were happy to make a donation to the cause!

Check out this link for more information on the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada http://www.ccfc.ca/localsites/Man_Sask/winnipeg/index.htm

When Will Spring be Sprug?

Spring has been a long time coming!  But this was a lovely surprise in my garden.  Because this is our first spring at this house I have no idea what's in my flowerbed.  But this Manitoba Prairie Crocus was a wonderful surprise to last week's episode of snow.

Rage at the Teens

Parents, do you know where your teen is?

Better yet, teen, do you know where you parents are?

What is going through the mind of these teenagers that go around, stealing, vandalizing and creating crime?  Once again tragedy has struck our city again, caused by teens taking the life of a workingman.  I’m thoroughly disgusted by it!

What are they thinking?  I was a teen once; never in my widest dreams did I ever think to steal a car, beat another person or shoot them!  Heck, I wouldn’t even know how to fire a gun or where to find it!  I just don’t understand what is going through their minds.

When I was 15 I think my biggest concern was my hair and clothes and what music I had on tape.  Now these kids are running around helter-skelter, killing, thieving and causing the rest of society grief.   Don’t they every think of cause and effect?  Do these crazy teens not realized that they will have to live the REMAINDER of their life knowing that they killed a man?  What a heavy burden to carry.  And all of this hurt and devastation occurred out of plain old stupidity.

I strongly believe that these kids know the difference between right and wrong, but why do they do the wrong?  These seem to know they have the system beat and that they are protected by the Young Offenders Act.  But what happens when they are 18 and still doing this crap? Still nothing, our great judicial system does nothing.

All of this violence and crime is a terrible thing and it tells me a few things about what is going on in society:

Parents are not accountable and responsible for their kids.  Why are 15 year olds running around the streets at 15 years old?  They should be at home, behind locked door and under the care of their parents.  Parents, why do you NOT know where your kids are?  Too busy?  Then UNBUSY yourself!  These are your kids! Why would you let them run around?  If you, as parents, won’t look after your kids who else do you expect to look after them? WAKE UP! Control your children!

Kids have too much!  They have too much money, they have too many toys, they just have too much stuff all together! Parents give them everything! Why do they need all of the latest gadgets given to them and have others beat them up and steal.  There are MANY people who have survived perfectly well with out the iPod hanging from their left ear and the cell phone from their right while wearing the latest fashions, jewelry and perfumes.  None of those things help a person to survive and grow up!  People, STOP enabling these kids to have EVEYRTHING!!  Look at what’s happening!  These brats don’t have an inkling to the value of a dollar.

These kids have no structure.  How many of these car-thieving kids have household chores to do?  Or even an afterschool job? I bet not one! The kids aren’t accountable to anyone and neither are the parents.  They’ve had no structure; they’ve never been told what to do and made to do it!  They can’t even show up to court on time for the crime because they are out trying to steal another car to get the courthouse!  Doesn’t that make you MAD????

I’ve had it hearing about the horrible nasty beasts of kids growing up!  I’ve never been one to feel it be necessary for boot camps and harsh prisons.... but now that’s all changed.  Throw them in jail, make them work, show them what they have to do to survive in life, make them be thankful that they have a roof over their head!  Give them bread and water in prison!  Better yet, don’t take them away from the accident, crime scene and hand them back to their unaccountable parents.  Make them stick around, see the physical damage they done to their surroundings and persons they’ve harmed.  Let them see the families of those that they’ve hurt emotionally and scarred for life. Let them see the pain, the heartache, the struggles that they put people through.  Really show them what their actions have caused.  No one seems to show these little criminals that.

What is it going to take for society to turn around?  Why should we have to fear to walk down the street, to drive or park our cars that we work hard for?   Why do we have to continually shell out our hard earned dollars to fix, replace and repair all the damage these brats of have caused us? Don’t say a tragedy because there have been far too many of those already.

Bahamas

The Bahamas!!!

Ya, we're back!  It feels like going from the oven to the deep freezer!  Golly, it's hard to be back in the chill!  But the adventures in Nassau were fabulous!

We went swimming with the dolphins, who are the most incredibly smart water mammals!  I could have stayed all day with them.  They are gentle and fun loving who love to play and swim.  I can't say anything more than they are just incredible creatures!

We went snorkeling in a reef at Rose Island, saw some magnificent underwater life.  It's wonderful to see what can grow in the warm salty waters.

We also swam with the stingrays, it was safe as these rays were de-barbed so that we were sure not to end up like Steve Irwin. Feeding the stingrays was an adventure as they eat by suction and believe you me they do have teeth!

We explored the tiny zoo and garden of Nassau where we encountered many happy parrots!  Feeding them was an experience too, one that I soon won't forget.

We shopped and explored the city, ate the freshest seafood money could buy.  Nothing beats that freshness... and also the huge cost of food!  If you go take your $$$$!!!!

Fun in the Sun

So... it’s been a little while since I’ve sat down and updated my blog.  Perhaps that means that I don’t have a very exciting life..... or things are so crazy that I don’t have time to write.

Well things have been busy.... but really not all that exciting.  Christmas and New Years went well.  We had a house for of people for both days with great food, company and drinks.  Greg even made it on TV to talk about our New Years Eve party to talk about having a safe party for our guests and being responsible with alcohol.  It was Greg’s 2 minutes of fame.

Since the holidays we have been trying to recover and catch up on rest.  Does one ever catch up on rest?  Well, I think that we have some wishful thinking as we plan to do a little resting in on the sunny beaches of the Bahamas!!!!   I can hardly wait!  Warm sun! White sand! And warm relaxing waters!  When I close my eyes I can almost feel myself there.... ahhhh...... it will be great!  Nothing is better in taking a swim in salt water.

This was a last minute vacation decision.  We saw it in the paper and had to take up the offer.  Besides, the last time we got a holiday from work was our cruise last year.  It’s about time and we are ready for the get away.  That means the summer will be spent at home in the yard... just where I like to be.  And a few trips out to the lake during the summer will be just fine with me.  Perhaps Greg and I should plan a camping trip this summer.  The Whiteshell is one of the better places to go, but I think I will make those plans after the snow has melted.

So, less than a month from now I’ll be sipping cool drinks while soaking in the warm sun!

Tiny Feets

I thought that this was really cute; I took the picture yesterday on one of the month’s coldest days.  I really don’t know what kind of footprints they are but I can imagine that it probably belongs to some little squirrel or mouse.  I just think that it looks so cute because I can imagine the little rodent, what ever it may be, and running back and forth to get the little grains and seeds that were leftover from the bird feeder.  All those little bits of food are around the base of the tree aren’t going to waste. Obviously those poor little critters are hungry or there wouldn’t be those little tiny foot trails.  But what makes me wonder is... do they have a little house built under the little cedar bush?  What would really happen if I stuck my camera in there?  What little critter would I find? I think it’s the little bit of mystery that interreges me of these footprints.

Only 27 Days

The count down has begun. There are only 27 more days until Christmas, for some that’s only 2 pay days away, how ready are you??

I have to admit, for the very first time in years..... in fact I would have to say in my lifetime I am 98% ready for Christmas. I have two things left to purchase a ham (or turkey) for dinner and Greg’s gift. I know what I want to get him but I’m having a problem getting it. I will have to hunt a little harder and I hope with all my fingers and toes crossed that I will be able to find that one thing soon.

But the house is almost ready, the tree has been up for some time now as Gregory was soooo excited to get things set up and lit up! We bought a new Christmas tree this year as I had a really old Charlie Brown tree... no joke... if you actually saw it you would think it came from the cartoons. It was the most ugly artificial tree that money could buy. Why did I own it... well I was 19 years old.....broke and Zellers had a sale. Does that say enough for you??

So the tree is decorated, so far so good with the cats staying away from it. Only one ornament has been knocked off to date.... but I have see the tree sway a few times now. I suppose that the cats are getting a little board being in the house so they like to chase each other around and around and around. But when eight legs are running at 25 mph on hard wood floor with it’s kind of hard to get a good grip  on the shinny floors with those sharp claws to do a quick 180-degree turn. So that 180 usually turn into a 90-dgree turn with a circle around the tree, up over the sofa arm, quick across the cushions, a corner of the coffee table and a leap back down the hall way for the real quick get away. Left in the flying cat hair is the twirling and tinkling of Christmas ornaments on the tree.

The presents are mostly wrapped, only a few more left to go but they should be done very soon. If I don’t Gregory darling could get a little snoopy and start searching through bags. Fortunately he won’t find his gift, as stated before I don’t have it, but he runs the risk of finding out the name of the family member I have for Christmas this year. We do a sort of ‘Secret Santa’ thing in my family. At Thanksgiving we draw names and we don’t tell who we have until we exchange gifts. And we can’t draw our spouse, so it makes it a little fun and it keeps a little bit of surprise and suspense in Christmas. So I gotta get that all wrapped.

Pierogie Time

This past weekend as a pierogie making weekend! The Hasse clan had their assembly line working hard on a Sunday morning.   It’s been a year since the family had been together to make the wonderful tasty treat.  Our freezers were empty and our tummies were craving therefore we had a day of hard work a head of us.

We start with a giant bowl of mashed potatoes with melted cheese, onions and butter... it’s cooled and we roll it into potatoes balls.....mmmm.... it’s so tasty just like this, Jillian would agree as she would sneak a few potato balls in her mouth.

Then comes the dough, rolling it thin with a pasta machine, s ee how everyone is working so hard.... rolling... rolling and  more rolling.....

Then there is the cutting...  placing the potato balls into the dough and cutting it into those recognizable half moon shapes.

Even the kids try to help.

Then comes the best part... the perogies are boiled and smothered in gobbs of butter... Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There is nothing better than the hot buttery perogies... right Hillary??

Hopefully we will have enough pierogies left over for Christmas... I better hide them from Greg! And in all of this... Troy, where were you hiding?

Thanksgiving

I completely admit I have been very delinquent in keeping this blog up to date.  I know that I have a couple of devote and faithful readers out there, you know who you are!

Thanksgiving weekend has arrived.  There is a lot to do this weekend to make everyone else a little more thankful, a little bit more fatter and to increase the chances of liver cirrhosis while thinking of the upcoming Christmas season.

Since I don't want to get too far a head of myself with all the Christmas chatter (even though it's less than 3 months away) I'm going to focus on the beautiful fall we've had in Winnipeg this year.  It's a fall season unlike any I've ever remembered.  It's been somewhat of a storybook fall.  The leaves have changed colour, the air has been warm, and walking in the crunching leaves has been fun.  Other years it's been a harsh frost with every leaf hitting the ground at the same time with no colour change.  So to enjoy what I've seen this year I was out walking with the camera and here are a few photos I've been able to capture.

I found this sour Cherry tree just across the road from my house... it's growing in a little ditch... the colour were so vivid and rich.

Dancing the Night Away

Dance Dance Dance... that’s what we did on Wednesday night.  Greg signed us up for some dance lessons at our local community club.  I was all shocked when he did it, and I’m surprised he agreed to it.  But now I have to write about it.  I’ll probably get burned at the steak for the things that I say about it because it was so darn funny.

To start, Greg signed us up for Latin dancing lessons.  We are learning Salsa, Merengue and Cumbian dances.  I have never taken a dance lesson in all my life and I have always wanted to do something like that.  Now, thanks to Greg’s generosity I’m doing it.

I must say, Greg is an awesome sport for taking part in this because he has a huge handicap when it comes to music, beat, rhythm and tone.  Essentially he can’t feel the music or duplicate it in any way, shape or form.  I feel sorry for him because he tries so hard and yet he just can’t get it.  And I admit he tries hard, if I want to dance he will dance with me... I even caught him moving to a beat one time while he was cleaning up the bedroom.  It was the cutest and funniest thing I ever saw, I also scared the crap out of him because he didn’t know I was watching.

So here we are in a room, a bunch of couples learning to Salsa.... left foot, right foot, left foot.... 1,2,3, pause, 5,6,7...quick, quick, slow, quick, quick, slow... ya not so hard when doing it by yourself.  But adding in that partner... jeepers!  I thought after the first ½ hour   that was going to be it, Greg is going to quit!  Me...I admit I was bad... . I can’t stop giggling because he looked like the squeamish girl trying to jump away from that creepy crawly spider! I tried to be kind and not laugh... but I couldn’t help it.  But as the evening went on he got much better.  As they say, practice make perfect.

The last ½ hour of the night we did some Merengue dance.  It’s easy.... but for the guys... well it definitely looks ridiculous because there is a lot of hip swinging.. and how many guys out there like to make their hips go pop, pop, pop when they dance?  Not too many.  Well when Greg started this... that was it, I cracked.... he looked cute... and yet sooo funny.. I’m still laughing about it.  I couldn’t help myself but giggle.. (this is why I will probably be burned at the steak, I shouldn’t laugh at him).  But he put in sooo much effort and we really want to make this work.

I think that we have 6 or 8 weeks of dance classes left.... I can't wait to see what next week brings us.  It's either going to be more giggles or graceful moves that will impress the both of us.  Only time will tell.  Maybe Greg has been secretly practicing and will have some fancy moves....... A girl can dream, right?

summer is over

It's finally all done, and I mean all!  Summer is over, the busy weekend of rushing around from here to there to celebrate a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday, moving, our wedding,,,, everything, it's finally all done.  And now I'm pooped.  It felt like we never had a single second to ourselves all summer long, starting in about mid June.  And believe it or not, I never really got to do anything that I wanted to do, like spend more time at the beach, go camping or even enjoy the back yard.  I suppose that is what I will have to be doing next summer. I had mentioned this to the group at work one day and they all looked at me with google eyes and said "What do you mean you didn't DO anything all summer?!?!?!"  I really think they thought I was nuts!

But I'm happy to be in our new house, it feels like home and I hope the winter goes well.  I need some down time to relax and catch up on all that missed sleep.

The grand finally to the summer was to celebrate my brother Karl's 40th birthday.  It was a great celebration with all of his friends and family.  We had great eats, treats and refreshments, it was a great party, Karl I hope you thought it was great too!  I hope you enjoy the big 40!

It's All Done

It's hard to beleive that within two weeks we have moved to a new house and have gotten married.  The time blew by so fast it was hard believe!  Before we even knew it, it was moving day.  All of our belonging and our cats moved over to the new house.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
It was wonderful, all of our family pitched in and helped carry a box, and the rest was left for the movers.  My parents spent the weekend with us to help unpack and get settled that much faster as we had a wedding quickly approaching.  The kitties are getting used to the house, and the short drive to work if delightful! I couldn't have picked a better location.

Now the wedding!  Greg and I exchanged vows on August 18th with our family and friends in the surrounding us. It was little bit of an emotional experience, but a happy one none the less.

We ran around, visited, ate and enjoyed the slush... well I think Greg enjoyed the slush a little too much!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We had fun with the wedding, we came in comfy casual clothes and decorated the yard to have a Mexican flavor and the food to match!  It was a party unlike anything I had been to before and I'm sure that not too many have experienced such a delight.

An Open Letter

MEMO

To:  The No Good For Nothing Theif
From: Two Ticked Off Owners
Date: Today
Regarding: TWO Stolen Bikes

Just in case you didn't notice, but two bikes are now in your possession, one red, and one silver and red.  I have reason to believe that these do not belong to you.  You did not purchase them, they were not given as gifts, nor were they sold to you or exchanged for anything.  Therefore I believe that you STOLE THEM.

In case you are unfamiliar with the crime in which you have committed the following definition may help you to understand:

The word comes from the noun STEAL meaning:

To take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, esp. secretly or by force:

In your case I believe that you performed the verb meaning:

To commit or practice theft.

So, you see, you have committed a crime and should be punished for your actions.  Unfortunately I do not know who you are, but I do believe punishment will come your way sooner or later.  Perhaps not in the judicial way such as "a good talking to from the boys in blue", fines, arrests, or jail, but rather in a more karma type way.  Perhaps someone may come by and steal those wheels from you just as you had to us, or some unfortunate type accident that commonly occurs while riding a bike.  By the way, road rash takes a while to heal, especially when the gravel and rocks start to fester and spew puss from your wounds.

I am also very disappointed in the fact that your parent(s) did not teach you any morals in life such as taking what isn't yours is wrong.  I truly hope that your children don't become such a disappointment to the community as you have, perhaps if they do it just may be karma.

If you should be feeling guilty, or have any feeling of remorse for what you have done please feel free to knock at my door, return my stolen property and announce your deepest apologies for your loathsome acts.
